Glaucoma UK would like to seek your support with their National Glaucoma Patient Voices Survey, which will be open throughout July and August. It has been endorsed by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, the College of Optometrists and the Clinical Council for Eye Health Commissioning.
This is the largest ever national survey of people affected by glaucoma, aiming to hear from around 10,000 people with glaucoma or under regular monitoring. The aim is to capture lived experience at scale and turn it into robust, credible evidence that can inform policy, service design, research priorities and national decision‑making — including work with key stakeholders to support implementation of the NHS ten‑year health plan.
It is designed to look across the glaucoma pathway nationally, focusing on the realities of living with glaucoma rather than evaluating care delivery at a local level. Topics include communication and information, anxiety about sight loss, mental health, day-to-day impact, and issues such as driving and independence. The findings will be used to work constructively with decision-makers across the pathway.
Glaucoma UK are keen to do as much as possible to make supporting this work straightforward. Even small prompts from trusted people can make a significant difference to whether patients notice the survey, understand why it matters, and feel confident taking part.
How you could help
Anything you can do to help spread the word will make a real difference. You might consider:
1. Adding a short banner to glaucoma patient letters
Glaucoma UK can provide ready‑written copy with a link or QR code that can be easily inserted into appointment or follow‑up letters.
2. Displaying survey materials in clinic settings
Physical and digital assets are available, including posters, screen designs, and small cards with QR codes that can be handed out at check‑in. These are designed to give patients the option to complete the survey online or in hard copy, either in the waiting area or at home.
3. Paper copies
Recognising that for some people it’s better on paper, surveys with the return envelope and an introductory letter can be sent to your clinic for your patients.
