Joint Consent standards with the RCOphth – COVID-19
Glaucoma Patient Standards
The standards have been developed by patients, patient charities and eye care professionals working together. They bring together key points from existing national guidelines in one document and cover the whole care pathway for those with glaucoma conditions. Those providing or commissioning care for these conditions should assess their services and, where the standards are not met, take action for improvement.
Patient Standards to increase support for eye clinic patients
We are delighted to announce the first national ophthalmology Patient Standards have been produced and published in collaboration with the RNIB. We invite all NHS hospital providers of ophthalmic care in the UK to adopt these standards and to join the UKOA to work collaboratively to provide sustainable and high quality care for patients with eye conditions.

How Moorfields is addressing monitoring follow up patients
Moorfields has been developing a methodology to establish processes for PAS data to be inputted for the calculation of the HII and NHS Digital/ College recommended follow up delay target – that patients should be seen within 25% of their clinically desired appointment timescale. This has been discussed at UKOA meetings and in the EyesWise webinars. This document describes the journey so far and the accompanying training video soon to be available on the EyesWise hub shows how the trust has developed training materials for clinical clerks and receptionists to support this.
Extending the role of non-medical health care professionals
The UKOA is delighted to share our first practice policy packs to support extending the scope of practice for optometrists, nurses and orthoptists in key areas. These provide building blocks to safely develop advanced practice through training, competencies, protocols and risk assessments based on national guidance and advice from UKOA members experienced in delivering care in this way. Editable versions are available to member on request to adapt for their trust requirements.
