UKOA National Meeting: Recovering and Transforming Eye Services: Successful Example of Imaging Hub Setup; Experience from the Independent Sector – Friday 25th March 2022

Thank you for your attendance at our UKOA Meeting on Friday 25th March!

We were delighted to invite our UKOA members to this virtual lunchtime meeting, as part of our monthly lunchtime meetings.

The session started with Clare Bailey who described the successful experience at Bristol of setting up and running a virtual clinic and imaging hub focused on medical retina and glaucoma patients, with a stream for corneal ectasia patients in the pipeline. This project initially made use of the Bristol Nightingale Hospital and has now become a permanent part of the Bristol Eye Hospital in an established location. The hub has truly transformed the way ophthalmology care is delivered in the city.

We then welcomed Tom Thorne who is the Head of Service Development at Newmedica, one of the largest independent sector providers of ophthalmic care. Tom described the way efficiency and good quality are harnessed to deliver safe care in an environment different to NHS-run hospitals.

A special thanks to all of our speakers for their participation and time to make this meeting lively and engaging with a fantastic set of talks.

There was plenty of time for questions and discussion and we thank our UKOA members for engaging and utilising the chat box.
