UKOA National Meeting: NECRTP, GIRFT and High Volume Cataract Surgery – Monday 25th October 2021

Thank you for your attendance at our UKOA Meeting on Monday 25th October 2021!

We were delighted to invite our UKOA members to this virtual lunchtime meeting, the third of our new shorter meetings which we hope will make it easier to access for busy colleagues.

We heard an update on the progress of the national eye care recovery and transformation programme (NECRTP) and we welcomed Professor Tim Briggs – SRO, Dr Elena Bechberger – HVLC Programme Director and Graham Lomax from GIRFT, who shared with us an update on GIRFT HVLC Programme and new plans to support ophthalmology and to overcome some of the key barriers to change.

We then welcomed Dr Josh Wall – National Medical Director’s Clinical Fellow, NHSE/I / GIRFT and Bertie S Fernando – Clinical Director Department of Ophthalmology East Lancashire Hospital NHS Trust from Burnley, who provided an overview of excellent work to implement higher volume cataract surgery underway at their trust through detailed process mapping and working through each challenge with the wider trust team.

There was plenty of time for questions and discussion and we thank our UKOA members for engaging and utilising the chat box.
